About the Book:
The River Spey means something to most Scots, and to many people from elsewhere. For some it is the great salmon river, summoning up images of chaps in tweeds and waders casting prodigious distances. To others the Spey is synonymous with whiskey. And others yet think of it as a fearsomely fasy and dangerous river. - DONALD BARR
Donald and Brian Barr consider this multiplicity of identities as they affectionately explore the river, whose presence flowed through their childhoods, from its source to the sea. From the small brown trout of Loch Spey to the Dolphin pods of the Moray Firth, from a meagre burn in the Monadhliath Mountains to a powerful waterway nearly 100 miles later, the spey is a truly unique river. Also included are easy-to-follow walks, notes on local wildlife and historical sites, as well as the distilleries, golf courses, tourist attractions and, of course, the fishing. The book also offers information that only a lifetime of living near the Spey can offer, with surprises even for those who know and love the Spey.
