About the Book: 

Scots have made a huge contribution to the world – you only have to look at a tea towel listing the famous sons and daughters of the saltire to see that. However, surprisingly, there is much that has taken place without its influence. This books seeks to show what could have happened if history was Scottish.

The famous figures and major events that have made an impact throughout the history of the world are seen through a uniquely comedic Caledonian perspective. The whole clanjamfrie of attributes associated with being Scottish – pawky, canny, contrary, gallus, aggressive, idealistic and maudlin – are used to revisit the battles, assassinations, explorations and inventions across the continents and centuries.

Some of those appearing are: JFK, MLK, Marie Antoinette, Neil Armstrong, Jesus, Lenin, The Beatles, Attila the Hun, Julius Caesar, Scott of the Antarctic, Rasputin, Albert Einstein, Queen Victoria, Hitler and Typhoid Mary.

About the Author:

NORMAN FERGUSON has been interested in history ever since receiving the Ladybird book on Robert the Bruce as a youngster. He studied Scottish History at university, although little has been retained. He still doesn’t know if James IV was a Renaissance Prince or not.

He devised websites for the Scottish Government on Scottish history, including one on William Wallace. As a result he spent far too long watching Mel Gibson’s Braveheart for research.

In his spare time he has written comedy for radio, TV and books. His proudest comedy moment is making Radiohead misery-guts singer Thom Yorke laugh out loud on Radio One.

After a spell writing non-fiction history books, he felt it was time to use his accumulated knowledge for more light-hearted ends.

BOB DEWAR was born in Edinburgh at an early age. 16 years later he was published nationally. He worked in D.C. Thomson’s studio where, among other things, he ghosted Dennis the Menace. After going freelance, he did political and social commentary for The Scotsman newspaper. He has illustrated books for the children’s and English Speaking Departments of Oxford University Press, Fife Educational Social Development, A&C Black and many Scottish publishers – Birlinn, Luath, Black & White and Itchy Coo. His work has also appeared in The Times, The Herald, Scottish Field and The Scotch Malt Whisky Society.
