About the Book:
You don't have to be a fitness fanatic or a serious hiker to experience the beauty and wonders that the Isle of Skye has to offer.
There are few other places in Britain that can offer such a wealth of short walks in such outstanding natural beauty.
This book describes forty short walks on Skye, the shortest of which is only a couple of minutes, the longest no more than 35. These excursions will take you to some of Skye's most magical places: beaches, rivers, woodlands, churchyards, ruined castles and forts. Maps and detailed directions are given for the route of every walk.
Written from the perspective of an amateur walker, Short Walks on Skye allows ramblers of all ages and abilities to experience the pleasure of exploring this beautiful island.
About the Author:
JOANNA YOUNG is an amateur walker and part-time writer. In her spare time she works as a civil servant for the Scottish Executive in Leith.
Joanna inherited a passion for the Hebrides from her family. Her maternal grandmother was born on Benbecula, the daughter of a minister from Shawbost in Lewis, granddaughter of the Stornoway postmaster. Joanna’s paternal grandmother Eilidh Watt, born in Skinidin, Glendale, was a well-known Gaelic writer and broadcaster. Her family were crofters from Glendale, although Eilidh claimed to be able to trace her descendants back to the Viking Askill who founded what was to become the MacAskill stronghold in Rudh’ an Dunain.
