About the Book:

The hidden controversy and heartbreak behind Stevenson’s Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is revealed in this fascinating work of literary detection.

What was the real reason Robert Louis Stevenson dedicated his dark masterpiece to his cousin Katharine de Mattos?

Why was Katharine’s own tale of duality published under a pseudonym?

When Fanny Stevenson ‘stole’ another story idea from Katharine, why did RLS explode with Hydelike rage at the cousin for whom he had once been ‘the one that loves you – Jekyll, and not Hyde’?

Featuring the full text of Katharine’s tale of duality, Fanny’s stolen story and another tale revealing Katharine’s grief at losing her cousin’s love forever, Mrs Jekyll & Cousin Hyde sheds new light on one of the greatest Victorian authors.

About the Author:

JEREMY HODGES has been a reporter, feature writer, columnist and TV critic and has also covered numerous Edinburgh Festivals for newspapers in Scotland, including The Sunday Times and the Scottish Daily Mail. After writing his first article on Stevenson to mark the 1994 centenary of the author’s death, he developed an RLS obsession which he sought to cure by writing a book. Soon his wife and sons in Falkirk had to accept ‘Louis’ as an extra family member, with every detail of his fascinating life discussed at mealtimes. After more than two decades, they have given up trying to get rid of him.
