‘S e Là nam Pòg a th’ ann agus dh’ iarr sinn air cuid de na h-ùghdaran againn na rudan as fheàrr leotha a roinn…

We asked some of our authors to share what they love most this Valentine’s Day…

Mat Guy

Tha clog bàthach, a tha domhainn taobh a-staigh innidh an stannd a’gairm na sgiobaidhean gu cogadh.

Iolaichean bhon seòmraichean, an uairsin gliogarach studan nam brogan ball-coise air choncrait, cleasan-teine ag àrdachadh mothachaidhean.

Gu nàdarra, tha sinn a’ cur fàilte orra fhad ‘s a tha iad a’ dòrtadh a-mach as a’ phàirce, a’ feitheamh ris an dràma fhosgladh.

A muffled bell deep within the bowels of the stand summons the teams to war.

Roars from the changing rooms, then the clatter of football boot studs on concrete floor, firecrackers heightening senses.

We instinctively stand to greet them as they spill out the pitch, awaiting the drama about to unfold.

Valentine do chruthachalachd

Joanna Geyer-Kordesch

Tha gaol agam air chruthachalachd agus na gàrraidhean uaine a tha ga bhrosnachadh! Bidh gaol a’ sgaoileadh gu àiteachan balbh a tha gam thàladh – agus bidh iad a’ coimhead gu dùrachdach ort cuideachd!

Thadhail mi air ghàrraidhean talmhainn agus bhruidhinn iad rium. Tha gaol a’ ciallachach gum foadar faicinn. Tha gràdh na fhìor fhaireachdainn, gu h-àraidh ann an talmhainn. Tha grinne nam flùraichean an-còmhnaidh prèasant math.

Bidh uisge, craobhan agus easan a’ toirt ort a bhith faireachdainn nach tig crìoch air an ùine. Bidh sunnd a’ nochdadh anns an àrainneachd uaine timcheall ort.

A Valentine to Creativity

I love creativity and the garden green spaces that provoke it! Love spreads beyond humans into the mute places that engage me – and they stare pleadingly at you as well!

If love is a quiet back and forth, a challenge between mute green leafy and flowery worlds and how to keep them forever in your heart, then paint them or draw them.

I visited landscape gardens and they spoke to me. Love is seeing. In landscapes especially, love is a true response. The grace of flowers has always been a gift well received.

Water, trees and cascades speak of time being endless. Well-being springs up in your green surroundings.

Mary W. Craig

Is fìor toil leam a dhol air chall ann am baile ùr, a’ lorg seann bhùth-leabhraichean sìos sràid sàmhach.

A’ lorg seudaige falaichte am measg nan cruachan dustach de leabhraichean agus an uairsin a’ tilleadh gu cafaidh gus suidhe còmhla ri caraidean agus botal-fìona ag aithris air na thachair an latha ud.

I love getting lost in a foreign city, discovering an old bookshop down a quiet alleyway.

Finding a hidden gem among the dusty piles of books then retreating to a corner café to sit with friends and a bottle or wine recounting the day’s adventure.

Norman Bissell

Tha gaol agam air a’ chruinne-chè agus na creutairean uile a tha a’ fuireach air. Tha gaol agam air an èadhar agus beatha làitheil anns na h-Eileanan Siar.

Is fìor toil leam gun do roghnaich Seòras Orwell a bhith a’ fuireach dìreach dusan mile bhuam agus gu bheil a bheachdan cho chumhachdach.

I love the planet Earth and all the creatures who live on it. I love the bracing air and daily experience of living on a Hebridean Island.

I love the fact the George Orwell chose to live just twelve miles from where I live and that his insights retain such power.

Luath Valentine 2020

Mòrag Law

Chan eil e na iongnadh gu bheil mi dìoghrasach mu chultar agus chànain na Gàidhlig – agus gu sònraichte na leabhraichean brèagha ùra Gàidhlig a bhios a’ nochdadh gach bliadhna.

Bàrdachd, ficsean, neo-ficsean, nobhailean fada no sgeulachdan ghoirid – tha gaol agam air a h-uile fear dhiubh!

Unsurprisingly, I’m passionate about Gaelic language and culture and especially all the lovely Gaelic books that are published every year.

Poetry, fiction, non-fiction, lengthy novels or short stories – I love them all.

Aileen Ballantyne

Faireachdainn làidir de chumhachd, air a phutadh air ais anns mo shuidheachan,

An ceò agus an t-uisge a’ dol a-mach à sealladh.

Tha sgiathan gam thogail bhon talamh,

Far a bheil na sgòthan coltach ri dath sneachda air a lìonadh le solas.

Tha deighe a’ gliongadh air mo chupa

Tha mi air teicheadh.

A surge of power, pushed back in my seat,

The dreich and the haar and the rain disappear.

Wings lift me clear off the ground,

Where the clouds are the colour of snow filled with light.

Ice chinks in my glass.

I’ve escaped.

Tim Maguire

Tha gràdh agam airson m’ obrach. Bidh mi an-còmhnaidh a’ bruidhinn mu dheidhinn; gaol dhaibhsan a tha air bàsachadh, gaol airson beatha ùr agus ar gràdh dhaibhsan a bhiodh earbsach le ar cridheachan.

Luachmhor, brisg agus neo-amaisgeal, ‘s e gaol an rud as luachmhoire dhuinn.

My job is my love. I spend my days discussing it; love for those who have died, love for new lives that have come into being and of course our love for those we trust with our hearts.

Precious, fragile and elusive, love is our most valuable possession.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

LÀ NAM PÒG SONA DHIUBH UILE!
