This last few weeks have seen us launch three books which heavily feature dogs…

We’re dubbing this our Season of the Dog. So, why not share with us pictures of your dog on Twitter! Use the hashtag #SeasonoftheDog, and one lucky person will win a copy of both Red Sky at Night and Of Dogs and Men by John Barrington! All tweets must be received by 5PM on Monday 13th May 2013 to be counted as entries. If you don’t have a dog, then creative images are accepted too!

We’ll post some of our favourite pictures here next week!

Of Dogs and Men: John Barrington

Part autobiography and part history, Of Dogs and Men is a celebration of our passion for the trusty sheepdog.

Filled with lively anecdotes, poems and mythological stories, Barrington sets out to map the evolution and bond between man and dog; how dogs developed from the wild into the beloved companions as we know them today. Barrington includes heart warming stories of collies used in life saving operations as search and rescue dogs, in epilepsy and cancer alert situations and as guide dogs.

Of Dogs and Men is available from all good bookshops, the Luath Press website and on Kindle.

Red Sky at Night: John Barrington

Red Sky at Night looks at the everyday life of John Barrington, a shepherd to over 750 Blackface ewes who graze near some of Britain’s most beautiful hills overlooking Loch Katrine.

Originally published in 1984 Red Sky at Night, Barrington’s first book, won an SAC book award, and was a UK number one best-seller. The book is available in all good bookshops and from the Luath Press website.

Charlie, Meg and Me: Gregor Ewing

Charlie: Prince Charles Edward Stuart, second Jacobite pretender to the thrones of England, Scotland and Ireland, instigator of the Jacobite uprising of 1945, fugitive with a price of £30,000 on his head following the disaster of Culloden, romantic figure of heroic failure.
Meg: My faithful, four-legged companion, carrier of supplies, listener of my woes, possessor of my only towel.
Me: An ordinary guy from Falkirk only just on the right side of 40, the only man in a houseful of women, with a thirst for a big adventure, craving an escape from everyday life.

For the first time, Bonnie Prince Charlie’s arduous escape of 1746 has been recreated in a single journey. The author, along with his faithful border collie Meg, retraces Charlie’s epic 530 mile walk through remote wilderness, hidden glens, modern day roads and uninhabited islands.

Gregor Ewing is due to appear on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Saturday Live’ show, discussing the book with Meg. He is expected to be on air around 9.30-10.30AM.

Charlie, Meg and Me is available in all good bookshops, direct from Luath Press, or on Kindle!
